RoboRep was founded on the idea to create a portable, accessible telepresence system that delivers on-demand, real-time technical support during operating room procedures.

Surgical teams often encounter a wide variety of devices from different manufacturers, making it challenging for them to master the extensive knowledge required for each medical device used in surgery. Historically, Medical Device Reprocessing Technicians (MDRTs) have been present in operating rooms to guide surgical teams on the proper use and application of these devices.

However, this practice has faced scrutiny. Concerns have been raised about the influence MDRTs may have on the selection of products for specific procedures, as well as the cost of their services and the potential risks of compromising the sterile field in the operating room.
